Iz Horgan (b. 2000) is an artist living and working in Providence, Rhode Island. She is an MFA candidate in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, and she holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. She works primarily in painting and performance. The themes she explores are borne out of her early curiosities – narratives surrounding relationships with animals, cultural ephemera, and labor rituals. Her practice is influenced by her experiences growing up in Western Pennsylvania surrounded by agriculture and the remnants of industry. She is focused on unearthing the subtle transgressions that occur in the rapidly changing Appalachian landscape. Marked fields, precarious beings, and peculiarities that emerge through the interactions of the manmade become the subjects of her paintings. Collected residue like dirt and hair are often incorporated into her work, connecting the body and landscape as sites for unrest.
